Eddie Harvey, Jr, born on June 24, 1938, in Lee County, was a cherished son of the late Eddie Harvey, Sr. and Vertics Kerr (McCoy). As their only child, he was raised in a nurturing home, instilling values that would guide him throughout his life. Eddie’s journey began at Booker T. Washington School in Elgin, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with love and community.

From an early age, Eddie found purpose in his faith, first joining the Elgin Church of God in Christ and later becoming a beloved choir member at Lakeside Baptist Church as well as fellowship at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His devotion to music flourished as he sang in various quartet groups, bringing joy to those who heard him.

Eddie was much more than a dedicated church member; he was a man of many passions. He found joy in gardening, hunting, and fishing, often spending time outdoors where he delighted in the rhythm of nature. His love for family was matched only by his enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures—watching his favorite football teams, the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns, tackling puzzles, and riding tractors through the countryside while soaking in the beauty of the world around him.

With an admirable work ethic, Eddie dedicated over 64 years to the industry, contributing his skills to Elgin Butler Brick, Payne Brick Company, and ACME Brick Company before retiring in 2022. His commitment to his work was part of what made him such a respected figure in his community.

Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, as well as the mothers of his children, Ruthie Mae Houston Thomas and Agnes Ann Milligan Harvey, alongside two sons, Edward Jonathan Harvey Houston and Eddie Harvey III.

He leaves to cherish his memories, wife Maria “Mary” Elena Harvey of 35 years, three beautiful children, Cynthia Harvey of Lockhart, Barry Harvey, Sr. and wife Christin of Elgin, and Lisa Reese of Hutto; Alongside Maria, Eddie built a family that extended beyond blood—embracing Maria’s four children, Dean Gonzales, Lee Gonzales, Martin Gonzales and husband Joshua, and Gracie husband Emilio Hidrogo. He also took pride in raising Allan Lynn Schroeder as his own son from a young age. Together, they are blessed with the love of 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry Eddie’s spirit forward.

Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, as well as the mothers of his children, Ruthie Mae Houston Thomas and Agnes Ann Milligan Harvey, alongside two sons, Edward Jonathan Harvey Houston and Eddie Harvey III.

As we remember Eddie, we celebrate a life rooted in love, faith, and family—a life that has left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will forever be in our hearts, a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived.
