Eddie Bernard James III-lovingly known as "Puffy"-was born on November 3, 1984, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Eddie and Wilda James. From the very beginning, he carried the warmth, resilience, and spirit of the city that shaped him. He was the cherished grandson of Nora Lundy of New Orleans, the late Willie Lundy, Charlotte James of Tylertown, Mississippi, and the late Eddie B. James, Sr.
He received his early education in Mississippi and proudly graduated from Tylertown High School. Determined to build a strong future, he continued sharpening his skills at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mississippi, where he earned his CDL certification. His dependable nature and strong work ethic led him to Huntington Ingalls Industries, where he served as a Shipyard Rigger for six years and was respected for his diligence, reliability, and willingness to help others.
Eddie professed Christ at an early age, grounding his life in faith, prayer, and a quiet trust in God.
In 2008, God allowed Eddie's path to cross with that of Shayla Manning, the woman who would become the love of his life. Their relationship blossomed over many years-marked by companionship, deep friendship, and unwavering devotion. After building a foundation rooted in love, patience, and mutual respect, they were joyfully united in marriage on September 22, 2023. Their union was a testimony of God's timing, grace, and the beauty of a love that grows stronger through every season.
A man of many gifts, Eddie lived life with passion, purpose, and a spirit of service. He was a proud member of the inaugural class of the Movers and Shakers Social Club Inc., where he served as Sergeant-at-Arms, Duke, and Grand Knight. His fascination with Mardi Gras traditions-especially researching the history and design of floats-revealed his love for culture, creativity, and celebrating community heritage.
Known as a true jack of all trades, Eddie found joy in spending time with his wife, Shayla, working with his hands, fixing things, learning new skills, and being the person others called when they needed help. His happiest moments were often spent outdoors or around good food-grilling, frying fish, admiring trucks and antique cars, and simply being surrounded by those he loved. Eddie had a gift for bringing comfort, humor, and ease to any environment. His presence was steady, warm, and deeply felt.
On November 13, 2025, at the age of 41, Eddie transitioned from this life and entered into eternal rest with the Lord. Though his earthly journey ended too soon for those who loved him, his legacy of kindness, devotion, and love will continue to shine in the lives he touched.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Shayla James; his loving parents, Eddie and Wilda James; his brother, Janssen James; and his sister and brother-in-law, Knavia and Fernando Chesser. He is also survived by his parents-in-love, Willie and Dora Manning; his brother- and sister-in-law, Ralphaelle and Jalanya Manning; his godson, Derrius Sparkman; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored him: Edward Godfrey, Kelvin Banks, Christopher Cross, and Kayla McDonald. Eddie also had many family members to includes aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
Though Eddie's time with us feels far too short, the impact of his life-the faith he lived, the love he gave, and the joy he shared-will echo in the hearts of all who knew him. We rest in the blessed assurance that he is now in the presence of the Lord.
