Eddie Dean "Spec" Hicks, a beloved father and devoted grandfather, passed away on December 17, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on February 19, 1955, in Hartsville, South Carolina,
His career in maintenance was marked by a remarkable talent for keeping rental properties in impeccable condition. Known as the "go-to man" at work, he was revered for his skill in fixing things and his dedication to his job. Colleagues and friends admired him not just for his work ethic, but also for his warm and welcoming personality. He was a man who never met a stranger, always ready with a smile and an open heart. In his younger years, he enjoyed singing, dancing while hanging out with his friends at local hangouts creating countless memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Above all, Spec cherished his family. He is survived by his son, Austin Hicks, of Patrick, South Carolina, and his daughter, Angel Gunnells (Jeremy), of Cope, South Carolina. Eddie leaves behind a legacy through his adoring grandchildren: Gabe, Shawn, Leah, Savannah, Mason, Cameron, Cylee, and Cade. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and his love for them was evident in every interaction.
His love extended to his siblings as well, as he is remembered fondly by two brothers and a sister who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Leola Hicks, and three brothers, all of whom he is now reunited with in peace.
As we reflect on his life, we remember a man whose warmth and spirit touched all around him. His vibrant presence and unwavering love for his family will be profoundly missed but forever cherished by those who had the privilege to know him.
