Edgar Dewayne "Wayne" Chilcutt

Edgar Dewayne "Wayne" Chilcutt, 75, of Pontotoc, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, surrounded by family who loved him dearly. After a period of declining health, he spent his final days in hospice care at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi, where he was kept comfortable and cared for with great compassion.

Wayne was born on March 1, 1950, in Piggott, Arkansas, to Albert and Selma Chilcutt. Wayne went to school in Mendota, California. He worked as an electrician in several different states before becoming an over the road truck driver. In 1994, he married Barbara Ann Skinner, and together they made their home in Ellsinore, Missouri, until he moved back to Pontotoc in 2025.

Outside of work, Wayne found his greatest happiness in the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing and teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren to target shoot. He could always be found tending a garden-growing the vegetables he was proud to share with others.

Wayne cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Chilcutt of Pontotoc and Ginger Camp of Bruce, his son, Clinton Chilcutt of Pontotoc; and his stepsons, Barry Newton (Dena) and Billy Newton of Missouri. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Roach of Piggott, Arkansas, and Fay Vroman (Ernie) of Yoncalla, Oregon, ex-wife Betty Chilcutt of Pontotoc and several nieces and nephews he cherished.

He leaves behind a loving legacy through his grandchildren: Jennifer Minor, Corey Sewell (Mallory), Finn Griffin (Jennifer), Anna Smith (Hudson), Caleb Moore, Tyler Williams, and honorary grandchild McKinna Tutor; his step grandchildren: Justen Newton (April), Troy Joyce, Travis Joyce and Casey Newton; his great grandchildren: Candace Minor, Caden Mercer, Zachary Hunt, Edith Hunt, Weston Hopper, and Vivienne Smith; and his step great grandchildren: Peyton Newton, Kadence Newton, Bentlee Newton, Finleigh Newton, Maebri Newton, Blakelynn Newton, Rye Raines, Zane Raines, Nyjah Porter and Maddie Porter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Selma Chilcutt; his wife, Barbara Ann Chilcutt; his daughter, Sabrina Sue Chilcutt; his son, Edgar Dewayne Chilcutt II; and his siblings Robert, John Henry, Gertie, Floretta, Charlie, Rebecca, and Dickie.

A graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Missouri, will be held at a later date.

Wayne's presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, strength, and simple, honest living will continue in all who knew him.
