I remember sometime back in 1985 or 86 when he walked into a packed church went right upfront and asked for a chair. Facing the pulpit, with his back to the congregation, he knelt down on the floor with his head and arms resting on the chair, he prayed to God. One by one all of us seated in the church knelt and started praying as well, we prayed and prayed asking God's pardon and as we got up Edgar Tekere had left. I remember vividly the meaningfulness and depth of the prayers we held that day. The lesson I learnt from this incident was that whenever you mean to do anything, anything that you set your mind on, do it good and proper.....put meaning, devotion and your mind in it!
He did much more than this for his beloved country....... the sacrifice was momentous and remember that he was not fighting for money but for equalization and recognition of the overtly exploted black man... the first love of his life was his beloved Zimbabwe.
Edgar Tekere is a true hero, a selfless liberator.
