Edilberto Ramírez Galván entered into eternal rest on January 12, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Galvan was born on Feb. 24, 1933 in Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico. where resided until he immigrated to Del Rio, Texas in 1970. In Acuña, Mr. Galvan owned and operated a successful barber shop located on Calle Guerrero in Acuña. He wrote a boxing column for the Zócalo newspaper under the name Edigara. He also served as a boxing ring judge for the boxing commission in Acuña for 58 years until 2010.
Like many immigrants before him, Mr. Galván work in seasonal migrant labor in Princeville, Il, from 1971 to 1979. In Del Rio, Mr. Galván worked at a dry cleaners and janitorial services at Gibson's Grocery Store and Bealls' Department Store, where he retired from in 1994. For approximately 35 years, Mr. Galván owned and managed rental properties providing a home for low income residents through the Housing Authority. Mr. Galván enjoyed watching baseball and boxing, as well as listening to Norteño music on his vintage handheld radio.
He most loved spending time with his grandchildren, who lovingly called him Guelo, The Wizard and Dad.
Mr. Galván was a devoted husband, an excellent father, providing guidance & support for his children. Guelo will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Mr. Galván is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mrs. Aurora Morales Galván, his son Javier, daughter -in-law Yolanda, grandson Frank and infant daughter Irma. He is survived by his sons Edilberto II (Eva), Jose Luis (Connie) and Sergio (Gloria) Galván of Burleson, TX, his daughter Ana Bertha (Baldemar) Hernandez ; Adriana Hernandez; Gus (Dino) Galván of Austin, TX; his daughter Blanca E. Galván of Pflugerville, TX; daughters Marisela Gómez and Silvia A. Galván of San Antonio, TX, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and one great- great grandson.
Pallbearers are his grandsons: Edilberto III, Daniel, Joe Luis, Edward, Christian and Alex Galván, Baldemar Hernandez Jr. and Julian Gomez. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Hernandez as well as great grandsons Leo and Xavier Galván.

The visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave, Del Rio, Texas.
The visitation will continue on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM; followed by a chapel service at 10:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave, Del Rio, Texas.
The interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 5144 Hwy 90 East, Del Rio, Texas. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Edilberto, please visit our floral store.
