Cumberland, MD - Edith Lillian (Mallery) Abbott, 85, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born Friday, September 13, 1940 in Washington, DC. Edith was the daughter of the late Lawrence Winship and Helen L. (Ely) Mallery. She was also preceded in death by her husband: John George Abbott; her son: John Robert Abbott; her brothers: Lawrence Mallery, and H. Allen Mallery; her sisters: Helen Bower, and Aileen Rader: her mother-in-law: Kathaleen (Spealman) Abbott; her father-in-law Robert S. Abbott; and her sister-in-law: Margaret Moscarillo; as well as her brothers-in-law: James Abbott, and Frank Moscarillo.
Mrs. Abbott was a retired head custodian for the Board of Education. Graduated from Oldtown High School
Edie, as she was known to all who loved her and Mom to us was never without a smile, she was known for her
cookies and cakes that she loved to bake and take to South Penn Elementary School and the various hospitals
and clinics.
Edith is survived by two daughters: Lisa K. Abbott, and Peggy (Larry) Bennett; her son: Charles (Tona) Abbott; her grandsons: Jeff (Brooke) Burgess, Joshua (Angela) Root, and Ryan Wamsley; her granddaughter: Kayla Wamsley; her great-granddaughters: Madison and Lily Burgess; and Avery Root and Emilee Burgess; her great-grandson: Benjamin Burgess; her brothers, Dave (Marilyn) Mallery, John (Sandra) Mallery, and Robert Mallery; her sisters: Betty (Bill) Adams, and Virginia (Charlie) Wolfe; and her sisters-in-law: Virginia Mallery, Sandy Mallery, and Judith Abbott. She has to many nieces and nephews count and loved each and every one of them.
Anyone who knew our mom, knew what a special person our mom was. Her heart was huge and she will be forever missed. At Mom's request she is being cremated and there will be no visitation.
