Edith Bean Obituary
Edith Mozelle Hale Bean went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning on January 21, 2024. She was born on May 4,1924 in Roanoke, Virginia to Mary L. Holston and Troy R. Hale. Her parents later settled in Kearny, New Jersey where she grew up with her five sisters. She graduated from Kearny High School and later graduated from Orange Memorial Nursing School as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Morristown Memorial Hospital and her nursing experiences led her to become interested in psychiatric nursing. She completed training for Advanced Psychiatric Nursing at the New Jersey State Hospital, Greystone in 1953. She also attended American University in Washington D.C., receiving a bachelor's degree. She worked at St. Elizabeth's Psychiatric Hospital also in Washington before moving to New Jersey where she was invited back to Morristown Memorial to work as a nursing supervisor on their newly opened psychiatric floor. Edith would tell you that the most important part of being a psychiatric nurse was simply listening. She retired from Morristown Memorial later moving to Manasquan then to Bayville in 2011. In years past, Edith was a member of Zonta International, Manasquan Women's Club, and volunteered for the Contact Helpline. Edith loved to travel, spending
time in the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe. Her favorite place to spend time was Crawfish Valley near Rural Retreat, Virginia where her mother was born and raised. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and was a voracious reader of a variety of novels and literature, especially cookbooks. Over the
years, she owned many dogs and cats who she loved dearly. In recent years a dear friend would bring her tiny poodle, Sammy to visit which brought her immense joy. Edith was very sociable and loved spending time with family and friends. As a long-time member of St. Uriel the Archangel Episcopal Church in Sea Girt, she enjoyed the
fellowship and friendship offered by a very kind, loving and caring congregation. She especially enjoyed her time in prayer and study with the Daughters of the King.
Edith was predeceased by her parents and her sisters Merle Testa, Irene Buchanan, Thelma Logan, and Myrtle Musser. She is survived by her sister Glenda Archer of Ruther Glen, Virginia as well as 12 nieces and nephews, 37 great nieces and nephews and innumerable great-great nieces and nephews as well as many dear and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Uriel the Archangel Church, 219 Philadelphia Blvd., Sea Girt, NJ 08750 or to your favorite charity in her name.
There will be a viewing on Friday, January 26, 2024, from 5pm-8pm at Mastapeter Memorial Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd, Bayville, NJ 08721.
