Edith Gray was born on December 9, 1928, in Jonesboro, IN, to the late Harley & Myrtle (Mills) Dunn. The doctor thought she was too weak to live. Yet Edith became the tomboy, knocking the wind out of herself jumping from the hayloft. She rode the plow horses, and loved the farm dogs and cats. She won a box of chocolates at her first roller rink visit, and was determined to clickity-clack over to receive it herself. Edith graduated from Fairmount High School. She slapped the upright bass fiddle in a trio with her sisters. She bought a '57 Chevy. She had the pluck that matched her iconic strawberry-blond hair.
October 27 of '57 in Marion, Indiana, she married Carl Gray. She and Carl ran a business, and Edith served as the bookkeeper and secretary. Carl & Edith were married for 44 years until his passing on June 15, 2002.
Edith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa & Keith Morefield of Columbus, Ohio, as well as her two grandchildren, Kaitlynn Morefield and Tyler Morefield. She passed her loves and hobbies on to them: dance steps, music, and the joy of reading.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was preceded in death by all four of her siblings, Eldo Dunn, Edna Dunn, Doris Rogers, and Fern Saunders. These challenges were handled with faith, one that she enriched by attending Covenant Community Church in Coldwater.
Edith, age 97, of Coldwater, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
