With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Edith “Polly” Evelyn Ahern Coté of Norwalk, who died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on August 12th.

Polly was the fourth of eight children born to Edwin Paul Ahern Sr. and Edith Evelyn (Wright) Ahern. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Timothy Ahern, her sister Michele “Mickey” Ahern, and two brothers-in-law, Tony Taylor and Peter M. Jacobs.

Born in southern Alabama, Polly spent most of her life in Connecticut, where she married Norman Coté and together they raised two sons. She is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Norman, their sons Michael (Bonnie) and Andrew (Yuliana), and her cherished grandchildren Patrick Michael Coté, Megan Elise Coté, Artemus Nobuaki Coté, and Maxim Sharabura.

Polly also leaves behind her siblings Kathy Jacobs, Judy Ahern, Ed Ahern (Carol), Tricia Goodman (Frank), and Jeff Ahern, along with many treasured nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and lifelong friends. She was blessed with caring neighbors, including Walter and Magda Berger, the Keogh family, and the Sibiskie family, whose kindness enriched her days.

The Coté and Ahern families wish to express heartfelt gratitude to now-retired Dr. Kesav Nair, Dr. George Zahrah, Valarie Solis, Suma Gupta, Caryn Ecker, Shaira Cohen, Ewa, and all the infusion nurses at Whittingham Cancer Center. We also thank Elvira, Sasha, the staff and volunteers, the laboratory and imaging teams, and the ever-helpful valet parking group. To her many “-ologists”—you know who you are—thank you for helping Polly enjoy a much longer, happier, and more comfortable life than anyone imagined possible after her diagnosis.

Friends are invited to calling hours at Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street in Historic Norwalk on Sunday, September 7th, from 10:00AM until 1:00PM. Polly will be entombed at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, near her parents and sister on Monday, September 8th, at 11:00AM. Please visit www.Raymond.Care to leave an online condolence for the family.
