It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our mom, Edith Schutten, on October 4, 2024. Grandma, Great-Grandma, sister and friend to so many, she will leave an unfillable void in our hearts forever. Edith was born April 7, 1943 to Tom & Cecelia Thompson in Waukesha, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Schutten. Edith and Mike fulfilled their dream of moving to Alaska to experience the rugged beauty of that state. Their life there was full of adventure, from fishing, camping, exploring Denali and spending time with their dear friends John and Elise. After Mike's passing, she moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family.
Edith had quite the artistic flair and you could easily see it in her paintings, hand sewn quilts and her famously crocheted dish cloths that we all looked forward to receiving as gifts from her each Christmas. She loved a good card game or round of cribbage with her kids and she especially loved puzzling with her great grandkids. Edith and her treasured cousin Patty shared a sisterhood like no other. They have been through it all for decades and considered each other the sister they never had. Edith held a special place in her heart for her longtime neighbor and friend, Flora, often stopping by to visit and share a meal. She and her sister-in-law, "Mary Sweet Rolls" shared a special bond and recently reminisced about countless memories from years past. A favorite outing of hers along with her dear friend Kathy, was to spin her chances on a slot machine at a nearby casino. Whether she was ahead or came home a bit short, she persevered in anticipation of possibly winning the jackpot! Well, Tommie you've finally won the jackpot! We will miss you terribly and all of the "Drama with the Mama" scenarios and until we see you again, Momz...Mushin & Lovin's and Big, Big Hugs!!! XOXO
Edith is survived by her children, Patrick (Mary Sue) McNamee, Debbie (Mark) Monroe, Tammy (Brian) Blankenheim and Shaun (Dana) McNamee, grandchildren Matthew (Tamera) McNamee, Shannon (Chet) Hendrickson, Dustin (Rachel) Monroe, Lucas (Jen) Monroe, Brit Blankenheim, Evan (Amalia) Blankenheim, Levi Blankenheim, Cole McNamee and Ashton McNamee; great-grandchildren Jade, Piper and Cohen Hendrickson, Sophie and Sydney Monroe and cousin, Patty (Gil) Glodoski.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 17th at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, W359 N8512 Brown St. Oconomowoc, WI. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm followed by the Funeral Mass at 3:30 pm.
