Edith Mackinnon Sloan

Canton, Edith White MacKinnon Sloan, age 79, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at The Homestead. A native of Augusta, Georgia she was the daughter of the late Howard Arthur and Isabelle White MacKinnon. Edith was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Sloan, who died in 2006. Edith received her BA in English from UNC Chapel Hill. She was the manager of Saville Bookstore in Georgetown, Washington D.C. and was co-owner of Sloan's Book Shop with her late husband, Charles. Edith was a member of HAWA and the HART theatre. She was President of the Friends of the Haywood County Library. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains and served as a vestry member. She is survived by one daughter, Meg Sloan Wilson, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two sons, Mark Sloan, of Blowing Rock and Andy Sloan, and his wife, Tammy, of Bethel; one brother, Howard MacKinnon, and his wife, Veronica, of Lincolnton; two grandsons, Patrick and Charlie Wilson. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May, 20, 2016 at Grace Church in the Mountains with Reverend Jim Dannals officiating.
