Edith was born on November 7, 1938, in Rockport, Kentucky where she grew up in a large family that instilled in her the values of hard work, determination, resilience, love and faith. She later built a life in Michigan with her late husband, Jerry, with whom she raised their children and created a home centered on those same values.
Love for her family was at the center of her life. She cherished her grandchildren, great grandchildren and found joy spending time with them and attending their sporting events to cheer them on. Her presence was a source of encouragement and pride. She never missed an opportunity to be with her children or her siblings and could often be found laughing, singing, and dancing.
Edith had a deep appreciation for nature and a lifelong love of reading. She was a wealth of knowledge when it came to nature and gardening and took great pride in caring for the things she grew. You could often find her early morning outside in her landscaping working. Edith was also a talented musician who shared her gifts through her church where she loved playing the piano and singing, especially alongside her sister, Mary Ruth. In addition to her music, she enjoyed painting, ceramics and traveling to spend time with her siblings. Her faith, love of family and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Edith leaves behind a large loving family to cherish her memory including: her husband Delmar Thompson; four children Dinah (Rick) Haney of Eau Claire, Reverend Roger (Jenelle) Daugherty I of Brooksville, FL, Roy (Edie) Daugherty of Watervliet, and Marvin (Nadine) Daugherty of New Braunfels, TX; step-daughter Lana Lyman of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; eight siblings Mary Ruth Daugherty Bozarth, Loveda Burden, WD Flener, Eleen Sublett, Harold Flener, Doris Colter, Ed Flener, Cicero Flener, Jr and many nieces and nephews.
Edith went home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2026. She is preceded in death by her late husband Jerry Daugherty, her parents Cicero and Retha Mae (Bullock) Flener, and two sisters Waunetta Hoger and Fosteen Clements.
Funeral services will be celebrated Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Yore Community Church, Sodus at 12:00 pm with visitation prior starting at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Watervliet. Memorials may be made in Edith’s memory to Yore Community Church.
