Edith Christiane (Lemiere) Wells, 97, of
Milton, Vermont passed away on December 10th, 2025, in the comfort of her home, with her granddaughter & caregiver, Michelle Wells & Edith's great-grandson Caleb Lagro by her side. Edith had come home on hospice care on November 23, 2025 and her final days was surrounded by her loving family who sat with and prayed for her.
She was born on April 9th, 1928, in Paris, France. She attended Catholic School throughout her youth. At the age of 17, she worked in the kitchen cooking and serving the military personnel where she met her future husband, Francis G. Wells, during World War II.
They were married on May 11th, 1946, at a Catholic Church in Le Plessis-Robinson. After her husband, Francis was wounded in WWII, Edith bravely traveled home by ship from Paris to Pennsylvania with their first-born daughter, Nicole. She did not know any English but obtained her citizenship papers to become an American & eventually learned how to speak English throughout her lifetime here. They moved to Vermont where they built a life together and raised their four children, Nicole, Elicia, Linda & Frank.
Edith enjoyed many things in life - spending time with her family, going to church as she was an avid Catholic, gardening, keeping a tidy home, shopping, going to bingo, going out to eat, especially for seafood, and going to the casino. She was a member of the Fraternal Order Of Eagles #4218 in
Milton, Vermont. In her elder years, she also worked as a caregiver with Visiting Nurses Association and during that time, she took care of her friend & partner, Gerard Gaboriau.
Edith's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in
Milton, Vermont. She attended Church faithfully & found great comfort, strength and joy in her relationship with God. Her faith guided her through every season of her life, and it remained deeply important to her until her final days.
