Edna L. Blankenship, age 89 of Kingsport, entered into Heaven on January 29, 2011 at Indian Path Medical Center. She had been a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church since 1951. Edna retired from Tennessee Eastman after 38 years of service. She was known as “Scrapper� or “Hawkeye.� Edna was preceded in death by her husband, John James Blankenship; her parents, E.R. Lawing and Hessie L. Greer; her sister, Wanda Frazier; her brother, Clyde Lawing; and her nephew, James Clyde Spangler. Surviving are her son, Roy Blankenship and wife, Kathy of Kingsport; special friend, Judy Blankenship Hutton of Kingsport; four grandchildren, John Gregory Blankenship, Timothy Grant Blankenship and wife, Sherry, Julia Jacquine Davis and husband, Ric and Josh Christenson, all of Kingsport; six great-grandchildren, Michelle F. Moreno and husband, Alex of Atlanta, GA, Conner Blankenship, Abigail Baxley, Jesi Davis, Lexi Davis and Daysha Moreno; her sister, Lucy Browning, husband Max and their two children of Marion, NC; a special niece, Patsy Phillips and husband, Allen; niece, Dana Boggs; three great-nieces, Angela Phillips, Marissa Boggs and Laila Metcalf; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 125 Coley St., Kingsport. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Hobert McCreary, officiating. Music will be provided by family members Patsy Phillips, Dana Boggs and Marissa Boggs. The Graveside Service will be Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Garden of Resurrection at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. The staff of Oak Hill Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations is honored to serve the family of Edna L. Blankenship.
