Edna Jane Powers Gilbert, age 87, of
Northfield, N.J.,passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023, with her family by her side.
She was born in
Pleasantville, New Jersey on April 13, 1936 to Walter and Maude Zeisloft- Powers. She was the youngest of 5 brothers and sisters all of whom preceded her.
Edna attended Northfield schools and graduated in the class of 1954 Pleasantville High School. She was an active member of Northfield Methodist Church (Good Shepherd) on Northfield Avenue in
Northfield, New Jersey.
She married the love of her life Merrell R Gilbert, October 6, 1956 at Salem Methodist Church in Pleasantville New Jersey. They resided in
Somers Point, New Jersey until moving to Northfield New Jersey. Edna worked at Shore Memorial Hospital in the medical records department until she became a full time loving mother..
Edna loved watching her Phillies and Eagles, playing scrabble and bowling on various leagues. She volunteered at the Pleasantville food bank.
Edna is survived by her husband of 67 years, Merrell Gilbert of
Northfield, New Jersey, daughter Pamela Gilbert Bufton (Douglas) of
Marietta, Georgia and son Richard Gilbert (Kris) of Palm Desert California. She is lovingly remembered by her granddaughters Jennifer Bufton White (Neal) of Marietta Georgia and Laura Bufton Axford (Mike) of Woodstock Georgia. She will be greatly missed by her loving great grandchildren Paige and Madison White of Marietta Georgia as well as Rhett and Reagan Axford of Woodstock Georgia.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10-11am with an 11am service at Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road in Northfield. Interment will follow at Atlantic County Veteran's Cemetery in Estell Manor.
