Edna Johnson-Cunningham, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026.

Born in Endicott, New York, Edna was the daughter of Geraldine Harris Bender and spent the majority of her life in the Binghamton area. In recent years, she relocated to Bristow, Virginia, to live with and be cared for by family.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Otto S. Johnson, Sr.; her husband through remarriage, Jerry Cunningham; her son, Bradford M. Johnson; her grandson, Hollis B. Johnson; and siblings Jessie Walker, Mitchell Harris, and Theodore Harris.

Edna, the matriarch of our family, is survived by four of her five sons Otto S. Johnson, Jr. (Melody) of Binghamton, Christopher A. Johnson of Binghamton, Mark E. Johnson (Jacqueline) of Bristow, VA, and Judson E. Johnson (Shawndre) of Glenn Dale, MD; and daughter-in-law Rev. Pauline Johnson of Woodbridge, VA. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins; all of whom were a great source of pride and joy in her life.

Edna was a graduate of Binghamton North High School and demonstrated great dignity in her work, most notably her 23 years of dedicated service at IBM Endicott, where she built lasting friendships and a strong legacy of perseverance and commitment. Edna was a long-time member of Trinity AME Zion Church in Binghamton. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking delicious meals of Southern, Italian, and various cuisines, and in later years, traveling the continental United States, Europe, and Hawaii.

Edna's loved ones will treasure her resilience, devotion to family, and the strength and grace she carried throughout her long and full life. Her memory will live on in the many generations she helped to shape and the love she shared with all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity A.M.E Zion Church, 203 Oak Street, Binghamton. Burial will be in Spring Forest Cemetery, Binghamton in the spring. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the Johnson family asks that you please consider making memorial donations to Edna's church, Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, 203 Oak Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
