Edna Rae Hudson Johnson

Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Edna Rae Hudson Johnson, age 96, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Wake Med in Raleigh, NC surrounded by her family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00AM-Saturday, August 6, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Four Oaks, NC.  Rev. John I. Norman, Jr., will officiate.  A Private Graveside Service will be held in Four Oaks City Cemetery in Four Oaks, NC.

Mrs. Johnson was born on September 15, 1925 in Falcon, NC to the late Ernest Olea Hudson, Sr. and Hortense Elizabeth Johnson Hudson. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ellington Johnson, and her siblings, Ernest Olea Hudson, Jr., Rachel Hudson Belmore, Alsey Hinton Hudson, Edwin Hudson, Durwood Hudson and Scott Hudson. Mrs. Johnson was the office manager at the Carolina Farmers Cooperative Tobacco Warehouse in Smithfield, NC, and worked with the Smithfield tobacco market for 55 years. She was integral in the maintenance and expansion of her family’s farmland, especially during the 40 years after Mr. Johnson passed. In 2001, The Tobacco Farm Life Museum of NC presented her with the Excellence in Agriculture Award.  Mrs. Johnson served on the Four Oaks School, and South Johnston High School Parent Advisory councils, and was a member of the Four Oaks American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was the secretary and treasurer for the Johnston County Tuberculosis Association for 25 years. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks, NC, where she served in many capacities. Her prudence, compassionate assertiveness and humble elegance will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters, Jennifer Johnson Rouzer and husband, Charles, Susan Johnson Overman and husband, Jim, and Lynn Johnson Smith and husband, Keith; grandchildren, David Rouzer, Beth Bock and husband, Hunter, Andrew Rouzer and wife, Kristen, Janet Pue and husband, Brandon, and George Smith; great-grandchildren, Ellie Bock, Anna Kate Bock, Holt Pue, Wren Pue, Hudson Rouzer and Hayes Rouzer; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends immediately following the Celebration of Life Service in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks, NC.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be accepted by the First Baptist Church of Four Oaks in memory of Edna H. Johnson. The church is located at 403 N. Main Street, Four Oaks, NC, 27524.
