Edna (Johnson) Sims

1955-2023 

The bell doth toll, and God reaches down to pluck another from the garden of love. It is time for the transplanting to the beautiful portal above. 

Edna Johnson Sims was born February 14, 1955, accompanied by her twin brother Emerson in Shelbyville, Indiana to her birth parents Era Leigh Senour Johnson and Emerson L Johnson II. 

Edna was raised from birth to adulthood by her Bonus Parents, Edna Senour (Mommy Ed) and William H. Senour in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Edna was united in holy matrimony to Rodney Sims on November 26, 1994. They shared a blended family of 3 children. 

Edna loved the Lord and professed her hope in Christ at an early age uniting as a member of Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church during the pastorate of Reverend Charles Henry Bell. She served the church over 60 years in various capacities. 

Edna attended Indianapolis Public School #43 and graduated from Broad Ripple High school. 

Edna was a talented planner, organizer and excelled in crafting.  She had a special love for quilting and creating lighted trees for all occasions. She would work for hours in her “happy place” tinkering with craft creations. 

Edna endured many years of health challenges but she always had a positive outlook and a joyful countenance no matter what struggles became present in her life. You could never extinguish her joy for life and family. She had an infectious laugh and uncontrollable giggle. Her faithfulness to her husband Rodney and her loving Mommy Ed never wavered even as her health declined toward the end of her life.

Edna was preceded in death by her loving son Marvin “Chip” Wilkerson, her birth parents, and her bonus father “Uncle Sonny”, Sister, Joyce, Twin brother, Emerson, and brothers: Brett and Tivan. 

Edna leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Rodney Sims, stepdaughters: Candra & Cicely. Sisters: Jenny (Clyde), Tina, Janet, Rhonda and Tanya; Grandchildren: Dashawnna, Cameron, Olivia, Jahlil, Jordan, Maya, Janay & Journey and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and a close circle of special friends. 

Although Edna has passed through this life, her spirit lives on in our hearts and minds. Therefore, we can never be truly separated from one another, even unto death. 

“But should the angels call for her, much sooner than we've planned. We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”
