Edna Lynn Staples (née Shoop), age 62, passed away on January 8, 2026, in her hometown of
Santa Rosa, California. Born in Santa Rosa on December 7, 1963, Edna's life was a vibrant tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to those around her.
Edna's early years were rooted in the community she loved so dearly. She attended Santa Rosa High School and continued her education at Santa Rosa Junior College. Always eager to grow and learn, she later pursued specialized courses at Nation College, preparing herself for a career that would be defined by compassion and service.
She began her professional journey in customer service with Nordstrom in Corte Madera before moving to the Stonestown location, where she served as a customer service manager for seven years. Her natural warmth and attentiveness made her a beloved figure among colleagues and customers alike. Later, Edna transitioned into healthcare administration as an office manager for Pediatric Associates in Santa Rosa. She eventually joined Sutter Health Pediatrics- where her genuine love for children made the work especially meaningful to her. Her work was more than a job; it was an extension of her generous spirit and desire to care for others.
Edna's personal life was filled with the same devotion and joy that marked her career. She is survived by her loving husband Dave, their cherished daughter Isabel, and her two sisters Rosalinda and Sonia.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys M. Shoop, who passed away during Edna's childhood, and by her father Gerald C. Shoop, who passed away in 2006. In January and February 2025, her treasured sisters Sandy and Marilyn also passed away.
A woman of many passions, Edna found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved to read and delighted in baking sweet treats with her family-moments that became treasured memories over the years. The ocean held a special place in her heart; she often visited Bodega Bay to sit quietly by the shore and listen to the waves roll in. Music was another lifelong love-she had an insatiable enthusiasm for live performances across all genres and attended countless concerts throughout her life.
Traveling brought Edna great joy and a deep sense of happiness. She embraced new cultures with an open heart and found joy in discovering unfamiliar places. Among all her adventures, Kauai stood out as one of her favorite destinations-a place where she created lasting memories with family and friends amid its natural beauty.
Those who knew Edna will remember her as kind-hearted, compassionate, cheerful, joyful, generous, selfless, and funny. She consistently put others before herself and offered help whenever it was needed-without hesitation or expectation. She was known for giving good advice to whoever needed it, even if they didn't want to hear it. She could tell you what you needed to hear candidly, with kindness and without judgement, but always with a little grin that said, "You know what you need to do." One of her core beliefs was in family, and family was incredibly important to her. She loved all of her family equally and her light and love will continue to shine in our memories as we remember her.
May the memory of Edna bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A Memorial Mass will be held on February 8, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at St John's Catholic Church 208 Matheson St, Healdsburg. A reception to celebrate her life will follow immediately after the service at St John's hall next-door.
