Edward Andrew (Andy) Barwick, 92, of Marion, beloved and cherished husband to Mildred (Barnett) Barwick, died Sunday evening, August 11th, 2024, at their Marion home.
Andy was born October 26th, 1931, in Johnson County, Illinois. Andy was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Della (McCormick) Barwick, his brother- Claude (Junior), and three sisters- Verna Mae, Jula Belle, Juanita; and son-in-law- Joe Stricklin. He was the 4th of five children raised in rural Goreville, attending Goreville and Marion schools. Growing up, he and his family were a part of McKinney Chapel Church, where he will be laid to rest.
Andy met Milly after moving to Marion. They were married in 1952 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. Andy was drafted into the army, and they started their new married life at Fort Monmouth near Long Branch, N.J. Their first child, a son, was born in 1954, with a daughter following in 1959.
Andy worked as a supervisor/consultant in research and development of small electronic explosives in and out of the area. He was proficient in electrical knowledge, was a competent handyman, and enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time in his study with his many books, always keeping up with current world events. He was devoted to his family and proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. When his children came to visit, he would always stop whatever he was doing and sit at the kitchen table to listen and talk with them. When a family member needed help, he could be counted on to give advice or a helping hand.
Andy was a lover of music and knew so many artists and their songs. Many times he would be heard singing a song from long ago.
After 72 years of marriage, Andy leaves behind his loving wife, Milly, his son, Randall and wife Janet, daughter, Andrea Stricklin, 9 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 16, 2024 at McKinney Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Andy Lee officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery.
