Died: October 30, 2021 in Romeoville, IL
Edward J. Batis, Sr.
Age 96. At rest Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Senior Star at Weber Place. Born in Joliet to the late Rudolph and Amelia (nee Kostolny) Batis. Edward was a lifelong resident of Joliet. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1943 and Joliet Junior College. Served in the Marine Corps 1943 -1946 for the duration of World War II. Recalled back to active duty in 1950 - honorably discharged in 1952.
Edward worked with his father at Rudolph Batis & Son, Designers and Builders and years later started Edward J. Batis & Associates, Inc. - Real Estate Appraisers. Edward was a longtime designated member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, and the Appraisal Institute. Member and Past President of the Joliet Exchange Club, and member of Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), Cathedral of St. Raymond Choir, Cathedral Seniors Club and various clubs at the Cathedral of St. Raymond School and Providence Catholic High School.
"Gramps" greatest love was his Catholic faith and family. He was always an amazing example of hard work, love of family and devotion to God. He was the center of family gatherings, always welcoming with love.
Survived by seven children, Mary Katherine (Roger) Tibble of Wheaton, IL, Judith Ann Stengele of Joliet, Ann Marie (Dan) Kinsella of Madison, NJ, Edward Joseph Jr. (Kathleen) Batis of San Antonio, TX, Carol Ann Brown (Kim) Warpinski of Yorkville, IL, Joseph Edward, Sr. (Sandra) Batis of Joliet, and James Edward (Susan) Batis of Joliet.
32 grandchildren: David (Michelle) Tibble, Peter Tibble (Jill Taylor), Joanne (Bryan) Achbach, Mary Ellen (Sean) Brennan, Stephanie (James) Nemeth, John Tibble, Jim (Christina) Tibble, Jeff (Christina) Tibble, Jake (Kaitlyn) Tibble.
Michael (Sarah) Kinsella, Sarah (Justin) Murray, Maggie Kinsella, John (Dana) Kinsella, Elizabeth (fiancé Dagan) Kinsella.
Eric (Karyn) Batis, Steven (Laura) Batis, Mark (Kathryn) Batis, Mary (Andrew) Key.
Andrew (Melissa) Warpinski, Emily Warpinski, Ellen (Martin) McBriarty, Timothy (Kelsie) Brown, Thomas (fiancé Haley) Brown, Alexander (Erin) Warpinski, Adam Warpinski, Kathleen (Jake) Eble, Augustine (fiancé Lindsey) Warpinski.

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Irene (Orenic) Batis and wife of one year, Jeanne (Siegel) Batis, infant son, John Edward Batis (1955), his parents, two sisters, Anna (late Tony Rusko) and Helen (late Robert) Walsh, one brother, Augustine (late Frances) Batis. Son-in-law, Michael F. Brown and son-in-law, Joseph L. Stengele.
The Batis family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to James and Regina Obeng (24-hour caregivers) for their compassion and loving care towards our dad; and, to Lightways/Joliet Area Hospice for their constant compassion, as well.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Lightways/Joliet Area Hospice or The Institute for Priestly Formation would be greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Edward's life will begin on Saturday, November 6, 2021, with a visitation at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Prayers will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. then driving in procession to the Cathedral of St. Raymond for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at SS Cyril and Methodius Cemetery in Joliet. Ed was my Godfather, Irene my Godmother. He always was kind and loving toward me my entire life..He liked to give nicknames and he called me "Frank Nitti".. Never did figure out why ? I am going to miss him, heartfelt sympathies to the whole Batis family.
