Edward "Ed" Ray Benson was born on May 15, 1945 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the son of the late Bedford and Ruth Fox Benson.

In 1972, he was united in marriage to Betty Wilkerson, who survives.

Ed worked for Garan Manufacturing for 20 years. He loved Jesus and enjoyed going to church at Walnut Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He loved animals, farming, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Edward "Ed" Ray Benson departed this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 16 days.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Benson; daughters, Angela Dixon and her husband Zack, Tammy Wisdom and her husband Deryl, and Teresa Benson; brother, Troy Benson and his wife Joyce; sisters, Nadine Bailey and Vernel Copeland; grandchildren, Fisher Murphy, Hunter Murphy, and Tamara Neill and her husband Nick; and great granddaughter, Ryleigh Neill.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his siblings, Hershel Benson, Garland Benson, Harold Benson, Onita Higgins, Robert Benson, and Hazel Wisdom.
