Edward Bittner Obituary

Edward Bittner
April 11, 1935 - August 28, 2023
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Edward George Bittner, 88, of Pittsburgh PA, passed away on August 28, 2023.
The son of Edward and Bertha Bittner, Edward is survived by sisters Betty Jean Reed, Alice Bittner and Grace Jack, and brothers-in-law Jack Spencer and Chuck Jack. He was predeceased by sister Ruth Spencer, and brother-in-law Elmer Reed.
Edward is survived by Roberta (Bobbi) Bittner, his wife of 62 years; children Ed and Karen Bittner, Brian and Kristy Bittner, Cheryl Bittner and Bill MacKay, and Michele and Dan Bullington; grandchildren April and Andrew Elam, Lauren Bittner, Ross and Caroline Bullington, Emma Bullington and Nicole Bonnema, Logan Bittner and Rylan Bittner; and great-grandchild Samuel Elam. Ed is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
As a Chemical Engineer from the University of Pittsburgh, Ed worked his entire career at Westinghouse Electric Company. He was a General Manager and Vice President upon his retirement. Ed enjoyed sharing stories from his business travels and lessons from his career.
Ed was a lifelong fan of Pittsburgh sports teams. Family time was often spent watching the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins or Panthers. He even took the family to Roller Derby.
Ed prioritized family summer vacations. He was delighted that his family wanted to return to Hilton Head Island, SC, year after year. Therefore, it was no surprise that Ed and Bobbi spent the winters in Hilton Head after his retirement.
Ed will be remembered for his love of hospitality, both in the home and in the restaurant scenes in Pittsburgh and Hilton Head. Ed was a generous soul, always looking out for his family, friends, and acquaintances. Ed also loved rock-n-roll music and the blues. While Bobbi knows all of the song lyrics, Ed was fascinated with the artists' history and lives. Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson were two of his favorites.
Ed lived by the motto "if you're not 15 minutes early, you're late".
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, August 31st, from 4-6 p.m. at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 1st, 10 a.m. at St Michael the Archangel parish, St Bernard Catholic Church, 311 Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.lung.org).
