Edward Bloch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spencer Funeral Home - East Hampton on Jan. 3, 2026.
Edward F. Bloch, age 85, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on December 31, 2025. He was born in Middletown on July 29, 1940, son to the late Frank and Mary (Skinner) Bloch. He was a life-long resident of Moodus, attending Nathan Hale Ray where he excelled in sports and developed his love for woodworking. He went on to play soccer at Mitchell College before serving 2 years in U.S. Army Intelligence. He completed his education at the University of Hartford.

He was the much loved husband of Dorothy (Mitchell) Bloch, enjoying 55 years of marriage. During this time they raised two wonderful daughters of whom he was immensely proud. They built a home where Ed made beautiful use of his woodworking and stone wall building talents. He and Dottie landscaped and maintained multiple gardens, creating an extremely labor intensive yard, which they loved! As a family they enjoyed road trips, summers boating, camping, lobstering and clamming in Stonington and, also, extended summer vacations with his much loved sister and brother-in-law in Easton, MD. Ed loved family and treasured the many gatherings they hosted and attended over the years. Grandkids added a whole new delightful dimension to his retirement. He also valued and nurtured many close friendships throughout his life.

Ed worked summers at Ted Hilton's Resort as a lifeguard, becoming an accomplished water skier–teaching guests and performing in shows. After college he worked at Pratt & Whitney but traded the confines of an office to begin a successful career in sales. He spent 34 years as an account executive with OCE-USA, Inc. selling engineering systems to engineering companies, architects and ultimately to large corporations like Pratt & Whitney and Electric Boat. He won many sales reward trips that allowed him and Dottie to travel the U.S. (highlights were 2 trips to Hawaii), Puerto Rico, Caribbean Islands and Mexico. They would extend those trips to sightsee and, of course, play golf. He also enjoyed their almost annual summer trips to Ogunquit, ME. Ed and Dottie became avid golfers and Ed spent many years as a member of the East Hampton Golf League.

Ed is survived by his wife Dottie, his daughters Tracy Bloch of Cobalt, Suzanne MacDougall (Ryan) of New Hampton, NY; granddaughter Mairin MacDougall, grandson Thomas MacDougall; brother-in law Robert Mitchell, sisters-in-law Julia Mitchell, Diane Mitchell; nieces Wendy Anderson (Dan), Jennifer Mitchell, Monica Mitchell (Steve); nephews Thomas Mondani, James Mondani (Cara), Christopher Mitchell; special first cousin Joan Sikorski, and numerous much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Henrietta Mondani and Eleanor Lockwood; and brothers-in-law Thomas Mondani Sr., Will Lockwood, Harry Mitchell and James Mitchell.
