Edward Cleo Bloom

September 30, 1945 – January 16, 2026

Edward Cleo Bloom, known to many simply as "Sarge," passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, and devotion.
Born in Cushing, Oklahoma, on September 30, 1945, Edward proudly served his country as an infantry soldier in the United States Army from 1966 to 1987. During his distinguished military career, he completed two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded in combat - a testament to his courage and sacrifice in the line of duty.
Edward continued to lead and inspire as an instructor in both Senior ROTC at Sam Houston State University for 10 years and Junior ROTC at Richland High School for 15 years. To his students, he was simply "Sarge" - a firm but compassionate mentor who made a lasting impact on thousands of young lives.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ruby Bloom; his beloved wife, Peggy Sue Bloom; and his brother, Stanley Bloom.
He is survived by his children: James McCrary, Timothy Bloom, and Ashley Bloom. He shared an especially close bond with Ashley's family - her wife, Emily Bloom, and their four children: Walker Brown, Kate Bloom, Molly Bloom, and Charley Bloom - who brought him immense joy, laughter, and pride in his later years.
A decorated soldier, dedicated educator, and loving father and grandfather, Edward Cleo Bloom lived a life of honor, purpose, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him
