Edward "Ed" Bosqui Brown passed away peacefully at home on December 13, 2025, following an extended illness.
Ed was born on May 16, 1947, in
Denver, Colorado, to G. Gordon and Leila Bosqui Brown. He was the middle child of five. As a boy, he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, skiing, and especially spending time at his Aunt Ditty and Uncle Bob's cattle ranch. That early love of ranch life shaped the rest of his years.
Ed earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Science and Management from the University of California, Davis, in 1970. He spent several years working as a cattle rancher and cowboy in both Colorado and California. He also shod horses throughout California and was likely the tallest farrier in the region. Deeply involved in the equestrian and ranching community, Ed was active in the Merced Horsemen's Association, serving as its President in 1991. He enjoyed roping and trail riding and participated in numerous organizations, including the Cattlemen's Association, Sonoma County Trailblazers, the Elks Club, and the Reno Sierra Riders. In recognition of his dedication to the land and riding community, Ed received the Joe Stern Award for Trail Stewardship in 1999.
A gifted storyteller and performer, Ed was a Cowboy Poet who entertained audiences for many years at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada, as well as at other events throughout the West. He also wrote songs and played the guitar and harmonica, sharing his humor, music, and love of cowboy culture with all who listened.
In 1989, Ed began a second career as an educator, teaching elementary and junior high students in Atwater and Madera, California, and coached a variety of sports during his long teaching career. He was well known for his work with the California Teachers Association Bargaining Team and was honored as Teacher of the Year at Howard Elementary School in 2010. After retiring, Ed enjoyed BBQ competitions, camping, and time with his family. He also faithfully attended a weekly Bible study with close friends for more than 30 years.
Ed is survived by his wife, Sandra (Sandi); daughter, Karen Jessop (Guy); stepson, David Herspring (Anna); and stepdaughter, Devon Beesley (Ron). His grandchildren-Shelby, Bryce, Kaylee, Brooke, Blake, Danielle, and Linnette, all were the lights of his life. He loved sharing his favorite hobbies with them and helping them learn and grow. As a husband, father, and grandfather, Ed was an encourager, a steadfast supporter, and our hero.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to Impact Melanoma.
