Edward "Ed" J. Bruski Jr., 84, of La Salle passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024 surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, at St. Hyacinth's Church in La Salle with the Very Rev. Thomas Otto, Rev. Jeff Windy, and Rev. Paul Carlson. Visitation will be in the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services. Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 20, at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery in La Salle. The Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle has been entrusted with Ed's arrangements.
Ed was born in La Salle on September 3, 1940 to Edward J. and Helen R. (Zubowski) Bruski. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Bede Academy. He also attended Illinois Valley Community College and Joliet Junior College. He was a police officer with the La Salle Police Department retiring as a lieutenant in 1991. On October 31, 1991, he married Jackie Bibula. In 2011, Ed had his marriage to Jackie blessed in the church.
After Ed's retirement from the police department, he started working for Illinois Security Service and worked at Peru's Off-Track-Betting which is where he developed his love of harness racing. For 12 years, he and Jackie owned and bred Standardbreds which raced at Chicago tracks and the Illinois fairs. Two of his favorite horses were Smooth World and One More Brewski.
Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to cook and garden. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He held season tickets and a Private Seat License to the Bears games. He traveled to New Orleans to watch the Bears win the 1985 Super Bowl.
Ed was a member of St. Hyacinth's Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Stephen's Society, and the Illinois Police Association.
Ed is survived by his wife Jackie of La Salle; two children, whom he was very proud of for their service in the Air Force and becoming registered nurses, his son Edward J. (Susan) Bruski III of New Orleans and his daughter Danielle Bruski-Ludwig of Independence, MO; four grandchildren: Michael (Heather) Thoman, Erica Bruski, William "Trey" Ludwig III, and Tanner Ludwig; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his brother Dan (Joan) Bruski of Hudson, WI; nephews and niece: Daniel (Cassie) Bruski, Ryan (Debbie) Bibula and their daughter Kaitlyn, Jack Bibula, Eric (Jennah Graham) Bibula, and Jennifer (Dan) Medley; great nieces and nephews; and two brothers-in-law: Rich (Billie) Bibula and L. Michael (Michelle) Bibula.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three loving companions: Lady, Snickers, and Jenna.
