Edward Byrnes Obituary
Edward Thomas Byrnes, age 77, of Sanford, NC, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 peacefully at his home, with his wife and his loving Doodles by his side.
He was born on January 31, 1947 to the late Edward Francis Byrnes and Margaret Koblchuck Byrnes of Long Island, New York.
Ed attended Appalachian State University where he received his Batchelor's Degree in Education. After graduation, he taught for a few years and then decided to return to Appalachian State for his Master's. After obtaining that degree, he worked in banking in the Boone, Banner Elk and Edenton area for 13 years before moving to Sanford in 1984 where he worked at Summit Bank. Ed then went to work at Sanford Honda for more than 17 years. He retired at age 62 and discovered a new passion, care giving for the elderly. In his spare time, he also doggie sat as well. Ed was a member of the Rotary Club of Sanford but the club he was most fond of was the "Harley Davidson" club. He loved riding those Harleys and yes, he finally taught his wife to ride and they enjoyed riding together for 15 years. Another great love were his animals. He had Dobermans, Labradors, Mutts, Schnauzers, and most recently his rescued Labradoodle, Lexi Ann and Goldendoodle, Bear. The devotion they shared was uncanny. Ed was a gentle giant with a heart of gold.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of more than 34 years, Jeanette Lawrence Byrnes; mother-in-law, Peggy Tyndall (late Jerry Tyndall); brother-in-law, Brian Tyndall and wife, Amy; sisters-in-law, Kathy Johnson and Diane Lawrence Carter and husband, Rodney; many wonderful friends of Hamilton Drive called "The Hamilton Gang" and his Harley family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 12:45 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Steve Rosser officiating. A special thank you to the wonderful staff of FirstHealth Hospice.
