Edward Chay Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wake Memorial Park Cemetery on Dec. 3, 2025.
Edward S. Chay, born a Laotian country boy with a deep love for his homeland, lived a life marked by courage, humility, and unwavering devotion. During his service to Laos, he met the love of his life, Vanh-a spirited city girl whose partnership became the foundation of a beautiful family. Together, they raised six cherished children.

In the mid-1970s, Edward and Vanh made the courageous decision to escape Laos, risking everything to give their children the promise of a better life. They survived the hardships of a Thai refugee camp and, in the early 1980s, arrived in Wabash, Indiana with little more than determination and hope. With no English and no familiarity with American culture, they rebuilt their lives from the ground up.

Edward embodied loyalty, hard work, and quiet strength. He worked for the same company throughout his entire career in the United States, leading by example and never shying away from sacrifice. Nothing was beneath him if it meant supporting his family. In those early years in America, he taught his children how to live off the land-fishing, gardening, and making the most of what they had-ensuring his growing family was cared for despite limited resources.

He was a fighter, a survivor, and the unshakable pillar of his family. Edward stayed true to himself no matter the odds, circumstances, or challenges he faced. He remained steady and unfazed throughout life, offering strength, guidance, and love until his final breath. He was deeply respected and beloved by his family, friends, and community.

Edward is survived by his devoted wife, Vanh; his six children-Pali (Jeff), Bey (Pete), Pick (Zoey), Peck, Noi (Amanda), and Palida (Pete); and fourteen grandchildren-Christian, Ahnna, Kenzie, Will, Kaden, Ella, Kaia, Kota, Braxton, Anderson, Audriana, Lexa, Mariah, and Noah.

His legacy of courage, resilience, and love lives on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
