He attended public schools in South Bend, Ind., and graduated from Purdue University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954.

Mr. Connon was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois. He retired from Illinois Power Company in 1989 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Mr. Connon's hobbies included oil painting, knitting, playing the piano, and building models. His favorite outdoor activity was running, and he had participated in many 10K races in the area.

Those surviving him include daughters, Dawn (Stephen) Olson of Geneva, Deborah (Brett) Peters and Dianne (Dr. Stuart) Baker, both of Decatur; grandchildren, Ryne Peters of Decatur, Sam (Sadie) Peters of Collinsville, Paige Olson of Geneva, Alexandra (Jakob) Falatovics of Michigan City, Ind., Taylor Olson of Sugar Grove, Gunnar Baker of Decatur, and Remmi (Anton) Sediako of Leipzig, Germany; and great-grandchildren, Anders Appel and Mariska Falatovics, both of Michigan City, Ind.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Marguerite Manley; and three brothers, William Connon, Larry Connon, and Charles Connon.

Mr. Connon will be laid to rest in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery in a private family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to any of the following: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Marklund Hyde Center of Geneva, or the St. Joseph Indian School.
