I was in awe of his carpentry talents. He designed and built a beautiful wood paneled library such as you might find in an english country home doing most of the work himself I believe. Including handwork. A very talented and funny man.

I met him first as a summer intern back in the 60s. He was my boss's boss--way above my level, but he was friendly and welcoming. He never ceased to be that way even when he moved to even more prestigious positions. I visited him (and Peggy, before she died) just a few years ago.
I have a photo of Ed and the HDL gang (then DOFL, I believe) at the Nevada Test Site--I believe before a test on which he was Test Director (Pinstripe?). Can't figure out how to share it.
RIP, Ed.

Ed was smart, a good leader, and his talents were recognized by all around him.
