Edward Theodore Cyran, beloved husband of 54 years to Dorothy (b. 1938 - d. 2015), died peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Born November 23, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the youngest child of Wladyslawa and Ignacy Cyran. His family spoke Polish when Ed was a boy and his Polish traditions were woven through his entire life.
Ed leaves behind his three daughters, Virginia and her husband John Pekarik, Margaret and her husband Anthony Dalia, and Carolyn and her husband Anthony Alongi. He is remembered and loved by his 8 grandchildren, Molly Fry and her husband Luke, Audrey and Claire Pekarik; Elizabeth Davids and her husband Sean, Rachel Shields and her husband JJ, and Anthony Dalia; and Matthew and Samantha Alongi. Ed was blessed with 5 great-granddaughters in addition to many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his parents, his brothers Theodore and Michael, his sister Helen, his sister-in-law Eleanor, his brother-in-law Ralph, and his nephew James, his sisters in law Joan and Bette and his brother-in-law James.
Ed joyfully celebrated the whirlwind of life that surrounded his family, and would spend hours at flea markets, fishing with the grandchildren, and exploring each and every new town and home of theirs joyfully together. Throughout his life he raised up and quietly supported each member of the family in their own meaningful way. Everyone in Ed's family knew that they were deeply loved. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.
Ed was deeply religious, and his beliefs guided him in life providing his family with stability and great love. Ed loved the traditions of the Catholic Church especially during Easter and Christmas. He cherished memories of bringing his children and later grandchildren to the Blessing of the Food on Holy Saturday and attending Midnight Mass and singing along with Polish carols at St. Joseph's Church in Poughkeepsie.
Ed was a member of St. Columba RC Church in Hopewell Jct. NY since moving to the area in 1966. He was an active member of the church and in the early years worked diligently towards the construction of the church building as we know it today. He would quietly and without fanfare see to the needs of the church. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus Third Degree, Council 4065.
Ed was a longtime member of the Hudson Valley Senior Softball League, he was an avid History buff, enjoyed fishing, polka music and travel. He worked at IBM in Engineering from 1959 until retirement in 1992.
