I have never known a better man other than my own father. He accepted me into the family just like I was his own daughter. I will always remember the camping trips staying up til 2am talking about when Dave was little.I am very proud to call him my father-in-law. We will miss you so much dad.

I still have a picture in my house of Ned, Bill Britton, and my son Ben after running the Kitchen on a cold March Sunday. It was Ben's first run. I have fond memories of paddling with Ned on those Maple Sugar weekends.

It has been some time since I floated a river with Ned, but I will always remember his grin as he pulled me from Rockbridge Baths after my husband got caught on a submerged tree and we both swam. Ned said that he was sure sorry to see me in the river, but he loved seeing "that old man swim!"

It's been years since I paddled with Ned, but I think of him often, especially when I'm fishing or doing anything on the water. Still, it seems like yesterday when John Ekman, Peter Ring, Jim Cox and I coaxed Ned into FFV's North Anna Chapter. He quickly fell in with Pine, Albert, et al., and became a regular "O.F.F." The rest is fondly remembered history.

See you on the river, old friend.

My thoughts go out to all who knew Ned. I learned quite a bit about canoeing, outdoors skills and listened to wonderful campfire tales from him. He'll be missed on the rivers of Virginia by me and many more FFV'ers. The rest of us will just have to keep paddling on down stream in hopes of seeing him again somewhere.

Everyone will miss Ned.And we wish to offer our support to his family and extensive network of friends, and of course to Tayloe.

My favorite image of Ned is as a young boy when he would be placed on the train by his parents to travel Way East to the ocean. He was such a common guest on the train that the conductors acted as his uncles and shephered him safely to his destination.

He was an awesome individual, but everyone knows that. Happy floating, my friend.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Ned for a short time but I feel like I have known him forever. He must have been an exceptional person. I know he will be missed by many.
