Edward Lyons "Fast Eddie" Dyer

He was always so nice and smiling all the time. He was a great guy. Him and Rick Callahan are playing the music up in heaven

A really first class guy in every way. Rest in Peace Eddie.

Ed and I go back to working at Sears . I typed up his service orders. Always asked him if he remembered to bring his fishing poles.

Fast Eddie was an amazing person and friend. He was always willing to help whenever he could. He deejayed for the hot dogs, cool cats and wild rides car show for many years. He is going to be very missed. The time is never right, the heart is never ready, to say good bye. God bless his family.

I first met Eddie when he was president of the Dixie Dinners and I had joined with my bright yellow Shay Model A, Ms Daisy. I use to write the newsletters and post interviews. I discover he was related to the lady who trained my horse to pull a buggy. I interviewed Fast Eddie when he was the president of Dixie Cruisers. I sat in his garage chewing the fat while he enthralled me with his stories. Here is his interview:
Twenty five years ago a bunch of car enthusiasts sat around chewing the fat over their passion for old cars. At that time Roger Ward decided they would start a car club. Consequently the Dixie Cruisers Car Club came to fruition. Ward took the helm as the first president. One day at the Space Coast Rods Corn Roll car run, the need for a DJ arose. Ward commented that "Fast Eddie" had a good voice and asked him to DJ the first show. Consequently,
since the late 1970's "Fast Eddie" became a DJ. His collection consists of over 10,000 songs mostly old time rock and roll and country. "Fast Eddie" even opened as a DJ for Bill Haley and his comets, a rock and roll band spanning from 1952 and until 1981. Their single "Rock Around the Clock" became the biggest selling rock and roll single
in the history of the genre and retained that position for some years. Love the phrase, "Put your glad rags on." That song played on the series, "Happy Days" and the film, "American Graffiti." Raised with 2 brothers and 3 sisters, the boys became involved with cars and the girls with horses. "Fast Eddie" rebuilt cars and sold them while attending
high school. One day tired of looking at the cars in the yard, his mom insisted she didn't want to see all of the cars, so the boys got a ingenious idea and built a fence so their mom didn't have to look out and see the cars in the backyard, one way to skin a cat. "Fast Eddie" raced circle tracks and met numerous race cars drives such as
Darrell Waltrip and Don Garlits to name a few. Other interesting people he met included Martin Caidin, author of numerous books. Some of Caidin's more famous books included, 'Marooned' and 'Six Million Dollar Man.'
"Fast Eddie" currently owns a 1940 Ford Truck with a Chevy motor, turbo 350. He sold it to his brother-in-law when times were lean and couldn't wait to buy it back. Married to Salli for thirty two years, they have three
sons one daughter and five grandchildren. He worked forty two years at Sears in appliance repair. "Fast Eddie's" fascinating life includes highs and lows including the loss one of his lungs but it doesn't slow him down much. He continues his presidency with oxygen in hand to attend the Dixie Cruisers meetings and various car shows.
For the rest of the story, inquiring minds want to know, how did the term "Fast Eddie" evolve? "Fast Eddie" explains he crashed his race car at the stock car racetrack. The following week he borrowed his brother's racecar and his
sister lettered it: driver..."Fast Eddie." Since then he's been affectionately known as "Fast Eddie." And now you know the rest of the story.

My husband, Bud and I knew Eddie from the Dixie Cruisers of Brevard. Eddie always greeted us by saying "I see you have your daughter with you". He always had a big smile and something funny that made your day with a laugh. He truly was a blessing and will be deeply missed by many! My deepest condolences to his family!
