Doty Family Funeral Service - SalemEdward “Ed” Lee Owens, 85, of Salem, Arkansas, passed from this walk of life on November 13, 2025, at his home.
He was born in Union, Arkansas, on July 24, 1940, son of the late Custhbert “Spikey” and Ollie (Jennings) Owens. Ed was united in marriage to Janet Linger on October 14, 1959, in Wenatchee, Washington, and together they raised four children. During his working years and beyond Ed was a farmer. He loved nature, horses, and cattle. Ed loved music, especially Johnny Cash. When he was younger the family would all get together on Sundays for a time of music and Sunday dinner and Ed would play the guitar. Ed enjoyed sports. He loved watching college sports and the Little League World Series on TV. The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Salem Greyhounds were his favorite teams.
Ed is survived by his wife, Janet Owens of Salem, Arkansas; sons, Greg Owens and wife Kim of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Dan Owens and wife Sarah of Brooklyn, Iowa; daughter, Sheila Bales of Union, Arkansas; brother, Jerry Owens and wife (Eileen) of Chehalis, Washington; sister, Hazel Powell and husband George of Washington State; grandchildren, Rachel Owens, Troy Owens, Chase Owens, Chelsie Lauff, Steve Griffin, Nathan Owens, Tyler Cox, Colton Owens, Caitlin Underhill, Jesse Etter and Dawson Owens and great grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Haize, Paxton, Tripp, Tate, Waylon and William.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Thornton; parents and grandsons, Shane Thornton and Adam.
Pallbearers include: Nathan Owens, Peyton Barker, Caleb Carter, Ryan Hollis, Chase Owens and Troy Owens
Graveside services will be Monday, November 17, 2025, at Union Cemetery beginning at 1:00 PM. Following services there will be a dinner at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
