Edward D. Fischer, Jr. died peacefully at home on 12/13/2012 following a long illness. He was the beloved son of Edward D. Fischer Sr. and Esther Rauch Fischer, born on October 11, 1921 in New Orleans. Ed grew up in a large family that included five sisters-Elva (Livaudais), Rosemary (Banker), Esther (Forst), Betty (Lacroix) and Margie (Butterworth)-and one brother Elmo Fischer. Ed was married to the love of his life Janet Landry Fischer for 55 years until her death in 1999. Ed and Janet were the parents of Gregory L. Fischer (Bonnie), Deborah F. Soniat (Chris) and Edward D. Fischer lll (Cindy). Ed had eight grandchildren Jeanne Soniat, Lauren Buckles, Colin Soniat, Gregory Fischer, Jr., Elizabeth Boyce, Corrie Fischer, Ryan Fischer and Casey Fischer. Ed also had eight great grandchildren Robert and James Merchant, Anna and Brooke Buckles, Kaya and Rowan Soniat and Brody and Kate Boyce. Ed played football for Tulane University where he received his BA. He received his master's degree from Southeast Louisiana University. Ed served his country in the Marine Corps in WW ll and the Korean War. He was a retired school teacher in the Jefferson Parish School system. He was an avid golfer who also loved cooking, wood working, football and bird watching. The family would like to thank the team who lovingly cared for him this year lead by Toni Pittman. Ed will be missed by all who knew him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
