Edward Paul Gerstung of Parma, MI entered into the presence of Jesus on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, under the incredible care of the SICU Team and Surgical Blue Team at Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson, MI.
Edward, better known as Ed, was born in Wheaton, IL on May 17, 1944 to the late Frederick and Lillian Gerstung. On May 25, 1985, Ed married Nancy Irene Wakeman and she survives.
The legacy of Ed's life not only will continue to impact lives here on earth but also for eternity. His life was defined by his deep love and commitment to his relationships with Christ, his family, and friends. He exemplified kindness and gratitude throughout his life. He never met a stranger and was always willing to serve others how and when he could. Working at Spring Arbor Lumber from 1970 to 2000 brought him much joy and purpose. He was a longtime member of the Spring Arbor Nazarene Church and faithfully served in many ways. Ed considered the decades he spent involved in the van ministry his greatest impact. His contagious laughter and expressive blue eyes lit up a room when he entered. The depth of his compassion was immeasurable.
Left to cherish Ed's memories and continue his legacy are his wife of 40 years, Nancy, and his four daughters and their families. Penny (Jeff) Crisenbery of West Unity, OH, Tammy (Joel) Brown of Dewitt, MI, Bethany (Eric) Zimmerman of Dimondale, MI, and Stacey (Travis) Jackson of Portage, IN. 18 grandchildren are also left to remember their grandfather: Ryan (Cara) Crisenbery and Karissa (Elijah) Andrus; Ramon (Shamber) Brown, Haley Brown, Savannah (Bruce) Baker, Ellie Brown, Grace Brown, Samuel Brown, Isaac Brown, Josiah Brown, Elijah Brown, Charis Brown, and Titus Brown; Archere, Teagan and Rhyleigh Zimmerman; Cooper and Davis Jackson, along with great-grandson Ellis Paul Baker. Brother Walter Gerstung, sister-in-law Margaret Gerstung, daughter-in-law Christy, and several nieces and nephews are also left to cherish Ed's memory.
Preceding Ed in death are his parents, Fred and Lillian Gerstung, brothers Robert and Roland Gerstung, son Paul Edward Gerstung and sisters-in-law Jean and Connie Gerstung. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, August 8, from 4-6 p.m. at the Spring Arbor Nazarene Church, 8200 King Road, Spring Arbor, MI 49283.
