Edward Bowers Gibbs III, 69 (also known as Buttons), passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. Edward was a quiet, private person who possessed tremendous wisdom, strength of character, and loyalty to his family, career, and friendships.
His early life was spent in Camden and
Dover, Delaware. After graduating from Dover High School, Edward entered the United States Marine Corps and completed his training in Beaufort, South Carolina. He was stationed at New River, North Carolina, and was a Gulf War veteran. He then completed many years of service in the Marine Corps Reserve.
After completing his military career, Edward earned a Bachelor of Science degree in both accounting and business administration from Delaware State University. Edward worked for the U.S. Department of the Treasury for 40 years before retiring in 2025 as a subject-matter expert in international auditing and fraud.
Edward was married to Robin Gibbs for 50 years. The two met in high school, eloped in 1976, and then married at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. They enjoyed traveling together internationally and domestically. Additionally, Edward was an avid golfer and loved participating in different tournaments with family and friends. To know Edward was to know his delicious cooking, and as a "foodie," he was renowned for his wonderful grilling skills, especially with steaks and ribs.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Anita Lynn.
He is survived by his wife, Robin, daughter, Kimberlea, and sons, Jayson (Monique) and Cameron; granddaughter, Amari Joy; grandsons, Karriem and Cameron Micah; brother, John (Colleen); sister, Angel (Malcolm); niece, Jayna; nephews, Malcolm Jr. and Eric.
Edward was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc.,
Dover, Delaware, and will be missed by his fraternity brother(s), Tommy Adams, and a host of close family members and friends.
