Edward "Eddie" Daryl Hlavac, son of Edward John Hlavac and Lawanda Novalene (nee Beasley) Hlavac, was born on August 31,1946, in Compton, California. He grew up in Downey, California. He attended and graduated from Our Lady of the Rosary grammar school, St. Pius X High School, and Cal State Long Beach University. He left us on April 17, 2025, at home in Fullerton, California.
Eddie excelled in athletics all his life. He earned a NCAA All American Medal in track & field at the
NCAA Track & Field Championships in 1969. During his working life, he had careers in trucking and
the mortgage lending industry. He retired in 2017 and immediately joined the Osher Lifelong
Learning Institute (OLLI) at Cal State Fullerton. His curiosity was boundless, and he never stopped
learning. He was also passionate about Cal State Fullerton's College of the Arts, supporting them at
every turn. He told everyone it was the best ticket in the county. On July 4, 1966, he had his first date with the woman who would become his wife, MaryLouise Dykzeul. They married on January 31, 1970. For next 55 years, they were lovers and best friends. Eddie will be remembered for his winning smile, beautiful blue eyes, kindness, generosity of time and money, and sense of humor.
In addition to MaryLouise, Eddie is survived by brothers Michael and Gary, sisters-in-law LJ Dykzeul
and Edie Hlavac, nephew David Hlavac, nieces Jamie Schmaing, Michelle Hlavac, and Elizabeth Davis, aunt Thelda Lowery, goddaughter Leslie Corcoran, and several cousins and grand nephews and nieces. Eddie was also the American dad to Hans Erkelens (Netherlands), Kaja Dehli (Norway), and Hiroshi Inaba (Japan). Cremation will be private. Plans for a party for him will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cal State Fullerton Philanthropic Foundation with designations to OLLI or the Theodore M. Dykzeul Scholarship Endowment for Jazz at the College of the Arts. https://giveto.fullerton.edu/site/SPageServer?pagename=general_donation_form&des_id=1001&appeal_cd=25WWG
