Edward "Buddy" Howe, 76, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away on December 20th, 2024.
Edward is survived by his son Michael Howe (Nicole); brother Mike Howe (the good looking one); sisters Sue Ballard (Wayne), Cathy Parker (Mike), and Linda Ballard; Vicky Chance; and many loving nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Della Howe.
After growing up a native of Clover, SC, Edward volunteered his service in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant during his service in Korea.
He retired from AT&T (formerly BellSouth, formerly Southern Bell) after 25 years of service, where he used his gift of gab to achieve a long and successful career in marketing and advertising. In addition to his many accolades and sales awards, he also distributed enough Yellow Pages phone books to pave the road from Fort Mill to Clover, which he drove often to spend time with his siblings and mother.
Always a gifted storyteller, Edward loved sharing his experiences with the world and was a talented author and prolific writer. He wrote many articles for national outdoor magazines which were published in three countries. He was a frequent presence in the editorial section of the Charlotte Observer and completed work on two novels after his retirement.
He was an avid sportsman and was never happier than when he was outdoors. His sporting travel took him all across the world including fishing in the Arctic Circle and the Cayman Islands, and his name remains feared among the brown bear and elk populations across the United States.
He enjoyed many, many things. Among those things were travel, photography, reading, acting in movies as an extra, shooting guns, red sports cars, blue Toyota Tundras, Jeet Kune Do martial arts, magic tricks, giving $2 bills as gifts, chess, Scrabble, Longhorn steakhouse, Bojangles, the Carolina Panthers, and above all, his family.
Memorial donations in Edward's name can be made to support the families of veterans through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.

What a sad day to see that Ed passed away. I worked with Sue Ballard in the business office and on a return visit told her about my new job in Yellow Page Sales and what a wonderful opportunity it was. Next thing I know Ed introduces himself just out of YP training and says Sue recommended it to him. He was one of the two best Yellow Page salespeople I knew, successful and always upbeat and positive. It was sad to see the obituary but nice to see how multifaceted he was and read about his many successes. I am sure he will be greatly missed but nice to remember how he impacted so many people in so many ways.

I learned a lot from the way he worked at BellSouth. He was the best I knew at his job, but he still had time for his family and his outdoor life. That example has been a good example to me.
