Edward Green Jennings, 81, of Prairie Village, Kan., passed away on November 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 28, 1943, to Edward Green and Mary Irma Jennings (Davidson) in LaGrange, Ga.

Ed graduated as valedictorian from Crystal River High School in Crystal River, Fla., before proudly enlisting to serve his country as a Navy Pilot. Ed and his fellow naval forces stood guard aboard three aircraft carriers stationed in the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding waters, protecting the United States by sea. Ed was deeply proud of his military contributions and spoke often of his honor to serve his country.

In summer 1983, Ed met Gail at a church function. The pair married the following year. They lived together in their Prairie Village home for 40 years.

After his military service, Ed continued to soar the skies for 33 years as a TWA pilot, serving as Captain from 1967-2000. An avid mechanic and craftsman, Ed spent time rebuilding cars and remodeling their Prairie Village home with his own two hands, adding three room additions.

Following his career in aviation, Ed pursued his passions full-time. He was adventurous and active with his hobbies. He found joy in fishing, building computers, traveling, racing cars with the Fiero Club, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Ed was a dedicated man of faith and enjoyed fellowship and membership at the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kan. It was here that Ed and Gail met and began their life together, anchored in faith, devotion and partnership.

Ed will be remembered for his intense passion for hobbies, continued desire to learn and grow, his quick wit and sense of humor, and his grit, strength, resilience and patriotism for his country.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gail Deane Jennings, as well as his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor his memory and celebrate his life.

Visitation will be held on Monday December 2 at 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Johnson County Funeral Chapel & Memorial Gardens, located at 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Kan., 66210.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on December 3 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, located at 9333 W 159th St, Overland Park, Kan., 66221, where Ed and Gail are members.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Parkinson's Exercise and Wellness Center, located in Leawood, Kan., a cause that supported Ed and Gail throughout his diagnosis. Donations can be made at https://www.thepewc.org/.

The family wants to express their gratitude to the staff at The University of Kansas Hospital ICU, Unit 63 and The Kansas City Hospice House for the care and support provided.
