With a heart full of adventurous spirit and a soul radiant with resilience, Edward Jerzyk, fondly known as Ed, EJ, Dad, and Papa, set off on his final journey on July 10, 2025. Born on March 9, 1951, in Blue Island, IL, Edward spent his lifetime leaving lasting memories in the hearts of his loved ones, while spreading joy and laughter wherever he went. His life was a series of brilliantly colored photographs, each a testament to his love for God, his family, his friends, and his country.
Edward was a man of many talents and interests. From his days as a letter handler in the Postal Service to his time serving our country with honor and dedication, he filled his life with purpose. His chest was adorned with numerous medals, each a testament to his service and dedication. The Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Air Force Achievement Medal were just a few of the accolades that he received during his military service. Yet, Edward was more than just his achievements. He was a man who loved the simple pleasures of life. From fishing, camping, and hunting, to playing a good game of darts, Edward was always on the lookout for an adventure. He was equally at home with a good book, especially those about history and spiritual growth, reflecting his deep love for learning and his dedicated faith.
Raised in the church, Edward stepped away from his faith for a period of time and his spiritual journey took a significant turn when he devoted his life to the Lord while stationed in Sheyma. His faith was not just about attending church but was a way of life, evident in his dedication to Bible studies, small groups, and prayer groups. His passionate involvement in the church choir in Tucson is remembered fondly by many. As stated in Romans 12:12, Edward was "joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." His faith was the compass that guided him through life, and he relished every opportunity to share his spiritual journey with those around him.
Edward's generosity was as vast as the skies he once navigated. He was always there for his family and friends, and would go to any lengths to help someone in need. His love language was Acts of Service, and he loved with his whole heart. He was a connoisseur of food and an avid traveler who had set foot in all 50 states, thanks to his military service. He absolutely adored his country, and was proud to have served it. His hugs were filled with warmth and love, and he knew when to just be there in the moment and hold you. He was a devoted father, a doting grandfather, and a loyal friend.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Wendi Miller and her husband George; his son Edward Jr and his significant other Joanna; his grandchildren, Kayla, Emily, Caden, Ethan, and Anna; and stepson Houston Ball. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Virgina Jerzyk, his wife Beverly Jerzyk, and his sister Jo Paynter. His graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 1:30pm PDT at the Tahoma National Cemetery. Followed by a reception at the home of Wendi and George Miller.
As we celebrate the remarkable life of our beloved Edward, we invite you to share your memories, stories, and photographs on his memorial page.
