Though I hadn't met Dr. Jorgensen, I have been using his amazing book "x86-64 Assembly Language Programming with Ubuntu" to teach my own students for years. Instead of attempting to profit from his book, he chose to generously share it with the whole world by publishing it under an open license. He blessed hundreds of my students with his brilliance.
Once, I emailed him to say thanks, learn how to pronounce his name in some videos I intended to make, and offer to buy him a gift or make a donation in his name for his wonderful book. He refused to take any money and was happy just knowing he was helping people learn Computer Science, replying with the latest revision instead.
I'm saddened the world has lost such a bright and caring mind. I had hoped to meet him one day. If there is an afterlife, I hope he's enjoying himself teaching a gigantic crowd of eager Computer Science students.
Rest in Peace.

It has been a great "ride" Ed - thank you for all your friendship and help getting through our early years at UNLV, and allowing me into your circle of "off-roader" buddies: Big Bob "BobO" Maichle, Dave Brune, Jim Hollingsworth.
Inspired from/by the words of Dr. Yfantis (one of our UNLV CS professors) ....I can image Prof. Ed Jorgensen saying similar to his students "up above":
"Come on guys, you are young, you know this... you can do this...!"
...from the UNLV *GEMBro* days, "That´s a wrap!" (Gary, Ed, Mike)
