Edward Newman Lennox, 84, of New Orleans, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Son of the late Joseph Andrew Lennox and May Newman Lennox, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Landry Lennox, daughters Katherine L. Richardson, Victoria L. Bartels, Mary Elizabeth Lennox, and Laura L. Skansi, son-in-law Joseph C. Bartels, and grandchildren James Richardson (Mandy), Emily R. Trainque (Adam), Claire Bartels, Louis Bartels, Katherine Bartels and Margaret Skansi. He is also survived by his brother Thomas N. Lennox (Clare Mae), his brother-in-law Saul F. Landry, M.D. and his sister-in-law Marion Lennox. He was preceded in death by his sisters Katherine Grace Lennox, Mary Alice Murdoch, Joan Claire Ray, and his brother Joseph A. Lennox, Jr. Ed graduated from Georgia Military Academy, where he lettered in many sports, including football and track. He then entered Tulane University on a football scholarship. After serving in the Army of the United States during WWII, rising from the rank of private to captain, he returned home to complete his education at Tulane, graduating with a degree of Bachelor of Business Administration. Early in his career, Ed was employed in the trucking business, serving on many industry boards, including representing Louisiana as a Vice-President of the American Trucking Association. He then joined Southern Industries, where he was Louisiana manager of Radcliff Materials and, later, Public Affairs Vice-President, first of Southern Industries and then Dravo Corporation. Ed was active in civic affairs, including serving as Chairman of the New Orleans Aviation Board, President of the Orleans Parish Levee Board, Chairman of Goodwill Industries of Southeast Louisiana, Founding Member of the Board of Methodist Hospital, and President of Metairie Country Club. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Carmel Academy, Goodwill Industries of Southeast Louisiana or to the charity of your choice.
