Edward McManimon Obituary

PENNINGTON
Edward Joseph McManimon, III, 77, died peacefully February 2, 2024, at his home with his family after a long illness. Ed helped and inspired many to realize their potential. His commitment to humility in service to others will be missed.
Born in 1946 and raised in Ewing, NJ, Ed was the second of nine children of Edna and Edward Joseph McManimon, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Christina; their two children, Maura Fennessy (Conor) and Christopher; and grandchildren, Liam McManimon, and Seamus and Killeen Fennessy. He is also survived by siblings Pat McManimon (Karen), Jane Cahill (Bill), Maryann Steinborn (Ed), Eileen McManimon, Jim McManimon (Mary), Tom McManimon (Mary), Tracy McManimon (Gary Hansen), and sister-in-law, Debbi McManimon, and was "Uncle Ed" to over twenty nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Michael McManimon.
Ed graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1964 and earned his bachelor and law degrees from Georgetown University in 1968 and 1971. As Class of 1968 Reunions Chair, he also served on the Board of Governors of the Alumni Association and was recipient of the John Carroll Award and William Gaston Award – the two highest alumni awards given by Georgetown University.
Ed began his legal career in 1971 with the Honorable George H. Barlow of the United States District Court in Trenton. Following this clerkship, he became associated with the firm that now bears his name, McManimon, Scotland & Baumann, LLC, and for whom his distinguished career would span more than half a century. Ed was honored by the New Jersey Law Journal as a recipient of its Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award and by the New Jersey League of Municipalities with the "Distinguished Public Service Award".
Ed enjoyed frequent visits to Ireland, summers at Long Beach Island, and golf at Galloway National or wherever he could plan a round. He was often seen walking the streets of Pennington with Pat, or Christopher, or alone with his headphones. It is certain The Pennington School girls' soccer team will miss their #1 fan behind the fence.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 4.00 p.m. until 8.00 p.m., and on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 9.45 a.m. until 10.45 a.m., at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 115 E. Delaware Ave, Pennington, NJ. A service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11.00 a.m., also at St. James Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, 72 Escher Street, Trenton, NJ 08609.
Ed's commitment to others endures as inspiration to all whose lives he touched.

We have just heard of Ed´s passing and we are so sad to lose such a friend and colleague. We go back to Georgetown where he was and is such an important of our lives. Whether it be on the courts on McDonough or helping organize our social events, Ed made a difference.
In later life, Ed was a helping hand to me during my time In Atlantic City. He was a friend when one was needed.
We will miss his influence in so many way.
Our prayers are offered and Ed remains in our thoughts.

I just learned of Ed´s death from a fellow classmate at Georgetown. I did not know Ed while I was an undergraduate, and got to know him through working with him on our various reunions over the years. He was a joy to work with, caring, kind and always supportive. I am grateful our paths crossed in such a lovely way. Grace and peace to Ed´s family.

Ed will be missed. He was obviously a great attorney. But the real measure of the man is what does beyond work. Ed was a wonderful husband to Chris for over 50 years and parent and friend to his kids grandkids nieces and nephews and his siblings. He reached out to the community in which he lived and tried to make it better. Chri, we are so sorry to hear this sad news. I have deepest sympathies and prayers go to you and your family. Love to you all Roger and Courtney Thomas.

Condolences to Ed's family, friends, and all who loved him. I had the privilege of meeting Ed while serving the municipal government of the City of Trenton. He always was approachable and made himself available to teach and help in a meaningful and impactful way. So, I am saddened that Ed is no longer amongst us looking out for us, my heart dropped when I heard the news of his passing. Ed, job well done, rest well in God's eternity.

Dear Tom, my captain on the ND Football Team, and Jane, my teacher in third grade, and family,

I didn't really know your brother, but I knew you, I knew your mom, from many days at Lieggi's. My tears for you, as you grieve as I still grieve my Mom and Dad a year later. You were my teacher not only as a center to a guard, but as a friend . Miss McManimon, my favorite teacher, you taught me the value of honesty and commitment to family honor, I love you for that. May he rest in eternal peace in Christ.

Love
