Edward Musgrove

Edward “Buck” Musgrove, 95 years young, passed away Sunday morning at home.

              Buck liked to celebrate his birthday in October but was actually born on November 5th 1928. He said his momma didn’t apply for a certificate until later so he just went by what she told him. He left us on December 10th 2023.

Buck entertained several careers during his lifetime. The first of which being a United States Marine. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on March 17, 1950. He hadn’t been enlisted long when he heard a rumor of a girl he fancied getting engaged, so after only 1 year of service he high tailed it home in the hopes of swooping her off her feet before someone else had the chance.

              Buck and Joyce were married on February 17th 1951. For the next few years Buck was stationed all over the world. He liked to say he had been to Siberia and back, but he didn’t like being separated from his “darling wife” so even though he served in the reserves for many years after, he was actually honorably discharged from active duty on March 8th 1954. He received a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal, making his short stay in the military seem like 20 years.

              Buck was also a Captain in the Mobile Fire Department. He was hired on July 2nd 1955 and spent the next 32 ½ years fighting fires, officially retiring on January 18th 1988.  After retirement his hobbies included carpentry, painting, hunting and he loved working in his yard.

              Buck and Joyce never had any children but did enjoy a marriage spanning 67 years.

              Out of 10 other siblings Buck is only survived by his brother Lamar Musgrove.

Services will be held at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Three Notch Road, Friday December 15th  2023 from the chapel at 2pm, the family will receive friends from 1pm until service time.
