Edward Oakes Jr.

Edward Peay Oakes Jr., 82, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. Born on January 2, 1943, in Red Bank, TN, Edward lived a life filled with love, family, and simple joys.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Oakes Sr. and Pauline Oakes; his beloved wife of 59 years, Leeta Oakes; and his son, Gene Oakes and granddaughter, Mehgan McDaniel.

Edward is survived by his son, son, Michael (Anne) Oakes of Columbia, NJ; daughter, Denise (Clint) Shoemaker of Fort Oglethorpe; grandchildren: Marlene (Zach) Williams of Ringgold, Lauren (Brett) Knapp of Derby, Kansas, Amanda (David) Blevins of Hixson, Tehya (Corey) Shoemaker of South Pittsburg; great-grandchildren: Winston & Wallace Williams, Archer & River Knapp, Stormi & Lily Blevins, Morgen & Wyatte McDaniel, Zavien & Amelia Shoemaker, & Rowen Shavers.

Edward will be remembered for his warm heart, his love of Tennessee football, and the pride he took in his automobiles. When the weather was right, you could often find him behind the wheel of his red 1955 Chevy - a car he loved almost as much as the memories it carried. He found joy in fast cars, cheering on TN football - especially against AL, but above all, his greatest pride was his family and close friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home in Chattanooga, TN. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Edward will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
