Edward Junior Owens, 89, of Aransas Pass, TX, departed this life, January 25, 2026. Ed was born August 9, 1936, in Devol, OK, to John Robert and Liddie Mae Owens. After growing up in Walters, OK, Ed served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married Jo Ann Carver of Geronimo, OK in 1957. Together they raised their four children in Altus, OK. Ed and Jo Ann later relocated to Aransas Pass, TX. Ed was in general contracting and remodeling and pursued his passion for fishing. In 2001, Jo Ann passed away; he married Juli-Ann Holm in 2005.
Ed was one of the hardest workers to have walked this good earth. After his military service, he returned to Oklahoma and used his GI Bill to complete cosmetology school. He owned and operated hair salons in Altus for several years. After a stint with the Daily Oklahoman newspaper, he joined the local newspaper in Altus as Circulation Manager. Over the years, he mentored countless young paper carriers and circulation employees. Some remain in touch with Ed to this day. He was also an accomplished auctioneer. Ed participated in the Rotary and Optimist clubs and was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Altus. In addition, he was involved with the Coastal Conservation Association to preserve the redfish population.
Ed was a lifelong outdoorsman and enjoyed freshwater and saltwater fishing. His love of fishing was part of his identity. In addition to fishing locally, he made many trips to Alaska to fish for halibut and salmon. Everyone who knew Ed was always happy to see him and he always had a good joke or a fishing story for every crowd. The jokes were clean and the fishing stories were mostly true. Ed never met a stranger and was known for going above and beyond to lend a helping hand to anyone.
