Edward J. Parkhurst, 78, of Log Road, Smithfield, passed away on Saturday August 30th in the Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the husband of Leoda "Lee" (Giroux) Parkhurst. They had been married for 55 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Mildred (O'Rourke) Parkhurst. He had lived in Smithfield for 48 years previously living in North Providence.
Ed had been a Signalman for Amtrack before retiring in 2003. He later worked with Macera Decorative Stone and Gravel in Scituate.
Ed along with his wife Lee, bred German Shepherds and produced many champions from their Sirius Park Kennel in Smithfield. He was a member of the RI German Shepard Club, Bay State German Shepherd Club, and the German Shepard Club of America.
Ed was a great mechanic, who would help anyone in need, an avid motorcyclist, and a NASCAR fan. He had enjoyed visiting with relatives and friends and was always first to arrive at his sister-in-law Pat's home for Christmas celebrations. He especially loved watching his great niece and great nephews enjoy the wonders of the Christmas season.
Besides his wife he leaves his sister, Marylou Parkhurst. He was the brother of the late Mildred Parkhurst.
His funeral was private. A celebration of Ed's life will be held at a future date.
